Brimbank City Council has partnered with the Victorian Local Government Association (VLGA) to provide prospective Brimbank Candidates with practical information on what it means to be a Councillor. The information will be presented to anyone interested over six sessions in early to mid-August.

Sessions 1-3 will cover becoming a councillor, understanding election campaign essentials, and prioritising self-care in public office.
Sessions 4-6 will provide women candidates with information on being a woman councillor, leveraging leadership experience, and staying safe whilst conducting your campaign, managing gender-based backlash and practising resistance.
Module 1: Becoming a Councillor will cover:
• Introductory module that covers the foundations of becoming a councillor
• Candidates will learn about their legal and regulatory obligations
• Participatory decision making and the importance of a code of conduct
• Leadership skills required to promote good governance
