How to Espalier Fruit Trees

August 22, 2026

10:30 pm - 12:30 pm
  • Sunshine Library, Hampshire Road

Learn how to espalier fruit trees! Espaliered trees are a great way to maximise the space in your garden.

‘Espalier’ is a method of training a tree against a framework so that you get a highly productive fruit tree that is essentially a two-dimensional shape that fits into narrow spaces and leaves plenty of room for growing other edibles around it. Espaliering lends itself well to grafting several varieties of fruit onto the one tree and the required pruning is simple and easy to learn.

Join Scott Hitchins, experienced educator and gardener from Werribee Park Heritage Orchard, for a workshop that covers everything from establishing your tree and support framework, providing irrigation, and methods of grafting on extra varieties of fruit.
